NOTICE FOR THE 11TH INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON CLEAN ENERGY (IFCE)

 

Since its establishment in 2012, the International Forum for Clean Energy (Macau) has developed into a significant global platform, dedicated to promoting technological innovation in clean energy, fostering international cooperation, and facilitating exchange. As global attention to climate change intensifies, the development and application of clean energy have become key strategies for countries striving to achieve carbon neutrality. Technological innovation in energy is a core driver of the green, low-carbon, digital, and intelligent transformation within the sector and is a crucial foundation for constructing new energy systems, reaching carbon peaking, and achieving carbon neutrality goals. The advancement of clean energy requires ongoing technological innovation and robust international cooperation. To mark the 25th anniversary of Macau's return to China and further strengthen international scientific collaboration, the 11th International Forum on Clean Energy will be held from December 3 to 4, 2024, in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. This conference will spotlight the latest trends in the global clean energy sector, gathering experts from government, industry, academia, and international organizations to share research insights, discuss practical pathways for technology implementation, and promote industrial development and international cooperation in clean energy.

Opening Ceremony:
Planned keynote addresses by representatives from the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Government of the Macau SAR, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macau, Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in Macau, United Nations ESCAP, Japan-China Economic Association, and main representatives of IFCE. Diplomatic representatives from Japan and other countries will also deliver remarks.

Thematic Summit:
Centered on the theme “Innovation Driving a Sustainable Green Future,” the summit will explore clean energy policies, plans, and progress from China, Japan, and other nations, including pathways for energy transition. Key discussions will include establishing effective international technology cooperation mechanisms and promoting the sharing and dissemination of green energy technologies.

  1. Global Energy Market Analysis and Outlook for 2025
    This session will review 2024's global energy demand and supply, examining the geopolitical impact of energy-exporting countries (Middle East, U.S., Russia) on global energy supply. The outlook for the 2025 energy market, covering oil, natural gas, coal, CCUS, and renewable energy, will be presented, with discussions on energy transition and market changes in the context of carbon neutrality and global sustainable development goals.
  2. Smart Energy Technology Innovation: Construction of the Hengqin Green and Smart Energy Demonstration Island
    Exploration of future smart energy systems that achieve efficient energy management through intelligent integration of production, transmission, storage, and consumption. Prospects for joint Macau-Hengqin green energy projects will be analyzed, covering comprehensive solutions for clean energy (electricity, heat, cooling) production, distribution, and utilization.
  3. High-Quality Development of Smart Computing Centers Driven by Green Energy (Closed-door Meeting)
    Discussion on multi-energy supply strategies for data centers and the integration of green power with traditional power systems. Insights will be provided on how smart energy management systems enhance energy efficiency in data centers, enabling carbon neutrality and zero-carbon emission pathways.
  4. Collaborative Development of the Asian Carbon Markets
    Updates on the carbon market development in major Asian countries and regions (e.g., China, Japan, ASEAN), including the current emissions trading systems (ETS), transaction scales, and covered industries. Topics will include mechanisms for cross-border integration of carbon markets, exploring feasibility for carbon quota trading and credit mutual recognition.
  5. ESG Empowering Sustainable Development in Energy Enterprises
    Examination of the dual challenges faced by the energy sector in transformation and sustainable development, analyzing the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. Success stories will be shared, focusing on how ESG supports enterprises in balancing economic performance with environmental protection and social responsibility.
  6. Advanced Energy Storage Technology Innovation
    This forum will discuss cutting-edge trends in energy storage, including solid-state and flow batteries, recent research and applications across sectors, and advances in materials (e.g., nanomaterials, high-performance electrolytes) that improve energy density, safety, and lifespan. Applications in electric vehicles, grid storage, and microgrids will be highlighted, along with commercialization prospects.
  7. Renewable Energy Innovations (Perovskite and Offshore Wind Power)
    Exploration of technological advancements in perovskite solar cells, focusing on efficiency improvements, cost advantages, manufacturing processes, and commercialization potential. Innovations in wind turbine design and technology, including floating turbines and high-capacity models, will be discussed, along with enhancements in smart operations and maintenance.
  8. Hydrogen Technology Innovation
    Discussion of the main technological bottlenecks in the commercialization of hydrogen energy, potential breakthrough directions, and a comprehensive analysis of the development trends in the global hydrogen market. The forum will also delve into the establishment of global hydrogen supply chains and standardization efforts.
  9. Nuclear Energy Technology Innovation (Fusion Energy)
    Discussion will focus on upstream supply chain materials such as heavy water, deuterium-tritium, and helium-3, with insights on the latest fusion device research and its application potential in the energy sector. Topics will include downstream issues like fusion protection technologies, waste management solutions, and isotope handling. The session will also explore fusion energy's innovative applications in nuclear medicine, detection, and broader civil domains.

 

These forums and summits will provide participants with a multidimensional and in-depth platform for discussion, fostering deep exchanges on cutting-edge innovations, policy development, and international cooperation in the field of clean energy.

 

  1. Awards and Recognitions

 

To honor companies, individuals, and projects that have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and technical contributions in the clean energy sector, the forum will reinstate its pre-pandemic annual awards for outstanding companies and individuals. Specific criteria, scope, and procedures for these awards will be announced separately. Additionally, this year’s forum will launch two new awards: the "Sustainable Development Ranking of Listed Energy Companies in China" and the "Carbon Neutrality Leader Ranking of Listed Energy Companies in China." These rankings will be conducted by the CUFE International Institute of Green Finance and the Global Carbon Neutral Research Institute (Macau), based on the CUFE’s well-established ESG database and international standards. No direct applications from companies will be accepted, and further details will be provided later.

  4. Signing Ceremony
    The forum will facilitate signing ceremonies for collaboration agreements between IFCE member organizations and partners, promoting deeper cooperation and strengthening strategic relationships.
  5. Exhibition Area
    An exhibition area outside the conference venue will display innovative technologies, products, and solutions. Exhibitors can use this platform to showcase achievements, engage with industry experts, and explore collaboration opportunities.
  6. Project Pitching and Private Meetings
    Select technology innovation companies and startups can participate in project pitching sessions, connecting with investors and facilitating collaboration between technology and capital. Private meetings will be available for government officials, industry leaders, researchers, and investors to discuss specific topics.

Registration via Conference System (recommended; opens officially on November 15). Scan the QR code through WeChat to access the registration system and complete online registration. There are four registration categories: Guest, Council Member, Invited Guest, and Media.

    Participants are responsible for travel costs. Shuttle services will be available from Zhuhai Airport or Hengqin Port to the designated hotel.
