H.E U Thit Linn Ohn, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar

Excellencies,

Honorable Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Very Good Morning

Ø
It my privilege to attend the 7th International Forum on Clean Energy. Let me express my sincere thanks to China Economic and Social Council, ASEAN-China Center, ASEAN Energy Center and all responsible people for this opportunity to be here as well as your tremendous arrangements and warmest hospitality extended to us in Macao.

Dear Colleagues,

Ø
Today, our world is more connected than ever. No doubt, the world demands for clean and green energy ever than before. To my personal view, clean energy is about clean technology. Even coal energy can be clean through high -end technology. We witness, the world is changed a lot by sophisticated technology. Innovative technology becomes the key to development. Similarly, Electricity is the key to development.

Dear Colleagues,

Ø
Based on the level of development, the increase in energy requirement has been rising in each and every country. For Myanmar , we still have long way to go forward in particular sufficient electrification. As such, Electricity insufficiency is one of important challenges to figure out. For the time being, we could provide electrification around 40 % of the households. In this regards, LNG energy is one of the options to fulfill urgent domestic needs, and LNG business is significantly feasible for short term, within 3 years.

Ø
We view; Hydro power will take longer time to generate the power. Of course, we will consider Hydro Power for long term perspective. In terms of other clean & renewable energy in Myanmar, we have beautiful sunshine in middle part of country, therefore, Solar can be regarded as promising one. As well as we have long costal line, and thus wind energy is also one of the choices to utilize. However, we operate a few projects on them. Therefore, we hope to work together for effective and efficient energy cooperation with the view to win -win cooperation.

Dear Colleagues,

Ø
Energy Cooperation becomes the main agenda of Economic Cooperation under One Belt, One Road Initiative. As you well noted, Myanmar has huge energy resources such as hydro, wind, solar, thermal, etc. Energy cooperation between Myanmar and China in terms of power engineering, construction and transmission has been made a lot of progress year by year. We have witnessed many achievements in energy cooperation between us, especially hydro power, wind and solar, thermal etc that definitely contribute a lot to our socio-economic development of Myanmar.

Dear Colleagues,

Ø
The situations based on the availability of energy resource, various aspects of environmental and social concerns and financial & technology requirements of each country will tend to whether we utilize our own energy resources or choose electricity import from outside. This is one of the options what we can take in account for energy requirement. Currently, Myanmar is thinking about the cross-border power interconnection plan among China-Maynamr-Bangladesh. We will make sure , this project must be on the basis of mutual respect, mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, and accountability.

Dear Colleagues,

Ø
This year, September, we have signed MOU on establishment of China-Myanmar Economic Corridor. In this regards, Infrastructure projects, including railway transportation, energy, economic cooperation zones become the foremost agenda between China and Myanmar in the future. To my perspective, in order to successfully cooperate the infrastructure project including energy cooperation, it is necessary to take into consideration some factors such as in line with the Energy Master Plan of participating countries, the status quo of intra-regional energy cooperation, the development plan, policies , regulations and ongoing Power Projects of each country.

Dear Colleagues,

Ø
In conclusion, thanks again for this opportunity, I do believe, during the forum, the distinguished speakers will exchange their views , high end clean energy technology on the integrated system of clean energy utilization, opportunity & challenges of each country. The two responsible persons from Myanmar Ministry of Electricity and Energy also attend this forum and they will discuss more pragmatic view in energy plan and cooperation. I wish this forum every success and continued support as an important role for Global Clean Energy Cooperation.

Thank you.
